Caring for our Environment

‘The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it on the waters.’ Psalms 24

The earth with water, oxygen and a perfect temperature to sustain human life has been God’s gift to us.
Unfortunately, in so many ways, the growing world population has caused destruction of the very conditions we need for life.

Climate change is clear to all of us now, with regular local destructive flooding, high temperatures and dramatic weather events. Worldwide, we see irrevocable melting of Arctic and Antarctic ice. Thousands of scientists agree this is caused by ever growing greenhouse gas emissions from human activity. Pollution from human waste into the natural environment is destroying wildlife and wild plants; a destruction which will start to affect human survival.

At St Edward’s we have a hope, but we also have a responsibility. Our solar panels generate half of the electricity we use. The remainder is supplied by a company that generates power entirely from solar or wind sources. We recycle as much as we can. Many of us are trying to reduce food waste, aim to cycle or walk for short distances, and cut down on meat consumption. Recognising the sanctity of the earth, we aim to tread lightly.

Please come and join us in caring for the earth, our home.
